About New Zealand eSIM
New Zealand's three operators — Spark, One NZ (formerly Vodafone NZ), and 2degrees — provide strong 4G coverage in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Queenstown, Dunedin, and all major tourist areas. Fiordland, Westland, and remote parts of the South Island's west coast have very limited coverage, which is appropriate given their wilderness character.

New Zealand eSIM — Common Questions
Does eSIM work in Queenstown?
Yes. Queenstown has excellent 4G coverage in town, at ski fields (Remarkables, Coronet Peak, Cardrona) in lodge areas, and on the main adventure activities near town.
Is coverage good in Milford Sound?
Milford Sound is one of the most remote tourist destinations in New Zealand. Coverage is very limited or absent on the water and in the Milford Sound Lodge area. This is expected in a UNESCO World Heritage wilderness.
Does eSIM work on the Tongariro Alpine Crossing?
Coverage is available at the Mangatepopo car park and Ketetahi trailheads. On the crater rim between the two main peaks, signal is patchy. Download offline maps and the DOC weather forecast before setting out.
Is there coverage in Abel Tasman National Park?
The Marahau entry point and Kaiteriteri have solid coverage. The coastal track between bays has intermittent signal. Anchor spots accessible by water taxi are generally covered.
