Digital Nomad Guide to Bali: The Best Places to Live and Work

Daniel Reeves ·

Bali is home to one of the world's most established digital nomad communities. Between Canggu's beachside co-working spaces and Ubud's jungle cafes, it has the infrastructure, cost of living, and lifestyle that keep remote workers coming back.

Best areas for digital nomads

  • Canggu — the epicentre of Bali's nomad scene, with the highest concentration of co-working spaces, cafes, and fitness studios
  • Ubud — quieter and cooler, surrounded by rice fields, ideal for focus work and a slower pace
  • Seminyak — more polished and expensive, better for short visits than long stays
  • Sanur — underrated, relaxed, good internet, popular with longer-stay nomads

Co-working spaces worth visiting

Dojo in Canggu is the most established co-working space on the island — reliable fibre internet, hot desks and private offices, a community of other nomads. Outpost in Ubud and Canggu offers membership plans with multiple locations. Many cafes in both areas offer reliable Wi-Fi and are co-working friendly, though the connection quality varies.

Internet connectivity in Bali

Bali's internet has improved dramatically. Most co-working spaces offer 50–100 Mbps fibre connections. Cafe Wi-Fi is generally adequate for emails and light video calls but can struggle during peak hours. Mobile data (4G from Telkomsel or XL) fills the gap well — a local or travel eSIM provides a reliable backup when cafe Wi-Fi is slow.

Cost of living for nomads

A comfortable month in Bali — private room or studio rental, food at local warungs and cafes, co-working membership, and scooter hire — costs roughly $1,200–$1,800 USD. Eating out cheaply at warungs can be as low as $2 per meal. Western-style restaurants and high-end gyms push costs up. Overall, Bali remains one of the most affordable full-featured nomad destinations in the world.

Visas for remote workers in Bali

Indonesia offers a Visitor on Arrival visa for many nationalities, valid for 30 days and extendable once for another 30. The Digital Nomad Visa (E33G) was introduced in 2023 and allows remote workers to stay for up to 6 months. Check current requirements at your nearest Indonesian embassy as regulations change periodically.
