Best eSIM for Thailand Travel
Thailand has some of the best mobile coverage in Southeast Asia, with 4G reaching most tourist destinations and 5G arriving in Bangkok and major cities. Getting a travel eSIM before you fly is the easiest way to stay connected from landing to departure.
Mobile coverage across Thailand
The three main Thai networks are AIS, DTAC, and True Move. AIS and True Move have the widest coverage including on the islands. In Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket, you'll get fast 4G or 5G. More remote areas like Pai or Khao Sok National Park have coverage that varies — 3G or 4G is usually available in the towns.
How much data do you need?
- Island hopping for a week: 5–8 GB (navigation, social media, Grab)
- City-focused trip to Bangkok and Chiang Mai: 5–10 GB
- 2–3 week backpacker trip across multiple regions: 10–15 GB
- Digital nomad working remotely: 20 GB or unlimited
Bangkok connectivity
Bangkok is exceptionally well-connected. The BTS Skytrain and MRT metro have strong in-station coverage, Grab works throughout the city, and most restaurants and cafes have Wi-Fi. You'll primarily need your eSIM for transit and navigation between venues.
Island coverage — what to expect
Koh Samui and Koh Phangan have solid 4G coverage on the main resort and town areas. Koh Tao is smaller but well-covered in town. More remote parts of Koh Chang or the Similan Islands may have limited signal. Download offline maps of islands before you arrive.
Setting up your Thailand eSIM
Install your eSIM at home before you travel. At Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang airport in Bangkok, you can enable it before you exit arrivals. Turn on data roaming in your settings (this just means 'use this eSIM for data', not actual international roaming charges) and you're connected.
