10 Days in Thailand: The Perfect Itinerary

James Okafor ·

Thailand is South East Asia's most visited destination, and it earns every visitor it gets. In ten days you can hit the essential bases: the temples and street food of Bangkok, the culture and cooler air of Chiang Mai, and the impossibly beautiful islands in the south. This itinerary strikes the balance between seeing a lot and not being permanently on the move.

Days 1-3: Bangkok

  • Day 1: Arrive, get your bearings in the Sukhumvit or Silom area, evening rooftop bar
  • Day 2: Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew in the morning, Wat Pho, Chao Phraya river ferry, street food in Chinatown
  • Day 3: Chatuchak Weekend Market (if visiting Saturday or Sunday), Jim Thompson House, cooking class in the evening

Days 4-5: Chiang Mai

Fly north to Chiang Mai (1 hour) or take the overnight sleeper train (a classic experience). Chiang Mai's old city is full of beautiful temples -- Doi Suthep is a must, perched on a hilltop with city views. Try a Thai massage on Loi Kroh Road and eat your way through the Sunday Night Market.

Days 6-10: Islands

  • Choose your island based on vibe: Koh Samui (comfortable, developed), Koh Phangan (parties and yoga), Koh Tao (diving), Koh Lanta (relaxed), or Koh Lipe (remote)
  • Day 6: Fly or ferry to your chosen island
  • Days 7-9: Beach days, snorkelling, diving, island-hopping by longtail boat
  • Day 10: Travel back to Bangkok for your flight home

Thailand connectivity tips

Thailand has excellent 4G coverage in cities and most tourist areas. A LimitFlex Thailand eSIM gives you reliable connectivity from the moment you land in Bangkok, through Chiang Mai, and on the main islands. Remote areas and some ferry crossings will have no signal -- download offline maps before you leave each location.

Best times to visit Thailand

  • November to February: Dry season in most of Thailand -- ideal conditions, but busy
  • March to May: Hot and dry; shoulder season for crowds and prices
  • June to October: Wet season; the Gulf coast is affected differently from the Andaman coast
