1 Week in Bali: The Perfect 7-Day Itinerary

Bali has been on travel lists for decades and it still delivers. The island has temples, surf, rice terraces, luxury spas, and a digital nomad scene that has made Canggu one of the world's most connected small towns. A week is enough to hit the highlights -- busy south, spiritual Ubud, and serene north -- without feeling rushed.

Days 1-2: Seminyak and Canggu

• Day 1: Arrive at Ngurah Rai airport, settle into Seminyak or Canggu, beach sunset at Echo Beach or Batu Bolong
• Day 2: Canggu morning yoga, rice paddy walk, Old Man's bar for sunset, explore the cafe and restaurant scene

Day 3: Tanah Lot and Uluwatu

Hire a driver for the day (standard practice in Bali, very affordable). Visit the sea temple Tanah Lot in the morning, then head south to Uluwatu for the cliff-edge Kecak fire dance at sunset. The limestone cliffs and ocean views here are extraordinary.

Days 4-5: Ubud

• Day 4: Travel to Ubud (90 minutes from Canggu). Visit the Sacred Monkey Forest, Ubud Palace, and walk the central market
• Day 5: Tegallalang rice terraces at dawn (before the tour groups arrive), a cooking class in the afternoon, Campuhan Ridge walk at sunset

Day 6: North Bali

Take a day trip north to Munduk or Bedugul for a completely different Bali. The twin lakes of Buyan and Tamblingan, Ulun Danu Beratan Temple floating on the water, and the Gitgit waterfalls are all within reach. The air is significantly cooler at altitude -- a welcome break from southern Bali's heat.

Day 7: Nusa Penida boat trip

Nusa Penida island is a 45-minute fast boat from Sanur. The famous Kelingking Beach (T-Rex cliff viewpoint), Angel Billabong natural infinity pool, and Broken Beach are unmissable. Book a tour or rent a scooter on the island. Return to Bali by afternoon for dinner before flying home.

• Install your Indonesia eSIM before flying -- connectivity is good in tourist areas and you will rely on maps
• Hire a driver rather than relying on rideshare apps in areas outside Ubud and the south
• Carry cash (Indonesian Rupiah) -- many smaller warungs and temples are cash only
